Paul Cotterill, MD., B.Sc, A.B.H.R.S

As former President of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery and certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery, Dr. Paul Cotterill has been specializing in hair restoration  for over 24 years. His primary office is in Toronto, Canada with a satellite office for consultations in New York City.

 Dr. Cotterill practices all follicular unit grafting; follicular unit transplantation and follicular unit extraction. Transplant treatments include: male and female pattern hair loss, to thicken areas of scarring and hair loss after face lifts, eyebrow, beard and mustache transplants as well as hair line femininization for male to female transgendered patients and to treat areas after burns or injury. Dr Cotterill is a proud contributor of Operation Restore

Dr. Cotterill spends as much time as is needed to educate each patient on their hair loss concerns. As such Dr. Cotterill performs all consultations himself without the use non-medical consultants. Only one patient is transplanted at a time with Dr Cotterill performing all the surgery and making each individual recipient site himself. Dr Cotterill has a very experienced team of registered nurses and hair transplant technicians who have all been with him for a minimum of 11 years. Dr. Cotterill takes great pride in his hairline creation and sees each patient as an individual, requiring his total artistic experience in the hair line development and surgical planning.

 Dr. Cotterill obtained his Bachelor of Science graduating with distinction in a joint anthropology/psychology degree from McGill University and his medical degree from the University of Toronto. After completing 2 years of an orthopedic surgery residency in Toronto Dr. Cotterill initially trained with Dr. Walter Unger, a hair transplant pioneer. Dr. Cotterill is certified by the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS) and is a previous board member, examiner and question writer for the ABHRS.

The  International Society of Hair Restoration (ISHRS) is the largest society of its kind for the medical and surgical scientific advancement and education in hair loss and hair  restoration. Dr Cotterill was the Chair of the Annual ISHRS Scientific Meeting in Washington, DC. in 1998, is a  past president of the ISHRS and is a current member of the Board of Governors as well as an active member of the Pro Bono Committee of the ISHRS,  for which he has treated patients for Operation Restore.  He is the Chair of the Continuing Medical Educational Committee for the ISHRS and oversees all continuing medical education activities offered by the ISHRS.  Dr Cotterill has been a presenter and /or invited faculty for every annual meeting of the ISHRS since its inception in 1993.

 Dr Cotterill is currently a Peer Assessor, Quality Assurance Committee, with The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Dr Cotterill was an investigator for the Upjohn Company regarding the Minoxidil Double Blind Placebo Drug Trial, 1986-88 as well as being an investigator for Merck Frosst and Company on the (Propecia) Finasteride drug trials, 1992 to 1999.
Currently Dr. Cotterill is an investigator for Transdermal Cap, Inc. assessing the Laser Cap, a low level light laser for hair re-growth, 2010 ongoing.

Dr. Cotterill travels extensively giving lectures as well as writing articles for journals and chapters on hair loss and hair rejuvenation as well as training physicians at his Toronto surgical centre.
